About R&D

ConsenSys Software R&D is a world-leading, globally distributed blockchain research group of twenty-five researchers focused on applied research and advanced development of technologies for both public and consortium blockchain systems. The group is undertaking research in the fields of zk and optimistic rollups, zero-knowledge proof cryptography, distributed systems, incentive systems, crosschain & bridges, and smart contract formal analysis, and is a major contributor to the development of the Ethereum 2. 

The group has a strong publication record, publishing in leading academic journals and conferences. The group has well-established working relationships with the Ethereum Foundation and academia, and hosts and chairs workshops, conferences, and meet-ups to disseminate their knowledge and to promote knowledge sharing in the research community. Additionally, the team publishes most of their code in open source repositories and their findings in open access archives and forums.

What you’ll do

The Head of Research and Development will lead the R&D team at ConsenSys. This is a unique opportunity to not only help drive forward the products that ConsenSys offers but to also drive the Ethereum ecosystem forward. You will have support from across the company along with access to experts that span every customer segment, product vertical, and each layer of the technical stack (protocols to consumer apps).

Responsibilities include: 

  • Owning the R&D strategy by: 
    • Working with product teams to understand their long-horizon goals and how R&D can contribute to achieving those goals. 
    • Working with key stakeholders across ConsenSys to facilitate understanding in both directions of company goals and current research directions. 
    • Engagement in the wider open source community to understand the areas of research where ConsenSys can have the most impact.  
    • Having a framework for reasoning about priorities and R&D investment across different research areas and time horizons. 
  • Facilitate the research team's work to execute on the R&D strategy and report out to ConsenSys on progress as it evolves. 
  • Represent the R&D team within ConsenSys and with our customers. 
  • Plan and support career development for the members of your team.
  • Inspire and grow the group through mentorship, empowerment, and by challenging them to do their best work.
  • Inspire an atmosphere of continuous improvement by using data driven approaches. 
  • Ensure decisions are made rather than make them yourself.
  • Find, hire, and develop great humans that complement each other as a team. Work towards the team becoming increasingly diverse.
