New York, NY, April 7, 2022: Today, Consensys, announced the appointment of Sarah Friar, the CEO, or Chief Neighbor, of Nextdoor (NYSE: KIND), as its newest board member. Friar will work closely with the board to advise on issues relating to emerging web3 business models and Consensys’ business operations.

Joe Lubin, Founder and CEO of Consensys commented on the appointment: “We are delighted to welcome Sarah to our Board. She is not only a recognised leader having been in a number of senior management positions at listed corporates and technology firms, but she also has distinctive expertise and a passion for community building. We’re about to flip the Age of Silos into the Age of Community and her unique background in that field will greatly aid the work of the board as the first independent board member. An advocate for supporting women in tech, Sarah is a fantastic addition to the Consensys board.”

Commenting on her new role, Sarah said, “I am thrilled to take on this position with Consensys. At Nextdoor, I have found that people increasingly want to reknit social fabric in a world where mega trends are pushing people further and further apart. I am passionate about working on something that, done well, can start to change the dynamics of the world. I look forward to working with the highly talented Consensys team, leveraging my experience bringing multiple disruptive, decentralized products to market as we embrace the new age of community and culture.”

A University of Oxford, and Stanford University graduate, Friar currently sits on the board of Walmart and the advisory board of HOPE Global.  Previously she served as CFO of Square (now Block, Inc.), when under her leadership, Square launched its initial public offering in 2015 and added $30Bn in market cap. Sarah is currently the CEO of Nextdoor, the app where you connect to the neighborhoods that matter to you, listed in the TIME100 Most Influential Companies of 2022 for its role in prompting kindness within communities. She is also the co-founder of Ladies Who Launch, a nonprofit that celebrates and empowers women entrepreneurs.

Consensys recently announced a $450 million Series D round that values the company at $7 billion, nearly doubling in worth since its last fundraise in November 2021. The funding will be used to accelerate Web3 adoption globally and to support the rapid expansion of MetaMask and Infura’s development tool suite as well as Consensys’s efforts to drive NFT adoption for artists, content creators, brands, game publishers, and sports leagues. The team has a deep knowledge of Web3 infrastructure, and with its suite of blockchain products, is making it easier to build applications on Ethereum and participate in DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, and the metaverse.

Sarah joins a number of industry heavyweights on the board of Consensys. The current board consists of: Joseph Lubin (Founder and CEO of Consensys), Robert Boroujerdi (Managing Director, ThirdPoint), Umar Farooq (CEO, Onyx by JP Morgan), and Michael Kriak (Managing Operating Partner, Consensys Mesh). Friar’s extensive knowledge and community building experience will be a huge asset to the board.
